It’s been more than five months since I added to my blog, but I haven’t been sitting still. I haven’t ridden as much as I’d like, but I have taken my motorcycle to the airport a number of times and gone for a few joy rides. The bike is doing great and I still enjoy every minute on it.
I’ve also managed to fly a time or two… actually, fourteen different flights over a five month period. I’ll try to catch everyone up on my adventures and throw in a few photos here and there. I decided to back-post my entries for archival purposes, so if you’ve been staring at my Diamond DA40 entry from August 11 for the last five months, go back and start reading from there.
In addition to all my flights, I (was) volunteered along with Hunter Moore to be a maintenance key volunteer at the club. One night a week, almost every week, since last May, Hunter and I (along with others that come and go) have been helping maintain the club’s nine airplanes. It’s been a lot of fun and a lot of learning. I feel much more comfortable with what’s going on under the cowling and am better equipped to understand and handle mechanical issues. Our joint job as key volunteers is to keep up with which planes are due for maintenance, show up every week and train other volunteers, and generally help out our director of maintenance maintain the fleet and handle some of the paperwork.
Hanging out with the airplanes and other pilots has been an acceptable substitute for flying when I can’t get in the air, but it’s definitely more fun to fly.
