I was really looking forward to a birthday flight today at 2:30, but I got a call from my instructor that I was sort of expecting. It was a nice day, but the winds were forecast to be about 20 knots or more directly across the runway at Sanford. That’s a pretty strong wind for any plane, but the Cessna 152 has a “maximum demonstrated crosswind” landing speed of 12 knots. That means the maximum crosswind that a professional test pilot who knew what he was doing actually performed a landing in that plane was 12 knots. Uh… I’ll pass.
